One day after he helped Rapid City Stevens High School win their 8th consecutive State Cross Country Championship, Alex Holmgren won the 1st Annual Halloween Sock Hop 5K run. The Stevens sophomore held on to defeat a hard charging Jay Johns by seven seconds in 18:10. He ran with Raider teammate Adam Dahlke through the halfway point before pulling away to the win. Dahlke finished 3rd in 1824.
Cathy Bechtel finished 12th overall to win the womens division in 20:34. She topped runnerup Wendy Ganser (22:53) by over 2 minutes. Lead Cross Country Coach Lorna Squyer won the 40 to 49 age division in finishing 3rd. Her time was 23:37.
Nathan Koch won the 1K kids run, touring Canyon Lake Park in 3:47. 15 athletes ran the kids run, while 35 runners finished the 5K. The run was sponsored by the Black Hills Runners Club. (http://homepage.mac.com/runobg/bhrc/)

16th Annual Spearfish Canyon Half Marathon
The 16th Annual Spearfish Canyon Half Marathon and 5k Walk was held
on Saturday, August 3, 2002. The half marathon and 5k walk is a popular
annual event for runners who look forward to the early morning downhill
race. A total of 131 runners and 36 walkers competed in this year’s
event.
The top finisher was Scott Reichenberger of Bismarck with a time of 1:13:53.
The top female runner was Dawn Fischer of Gillette, Wyoming with at time
of 1:20:16.

Monni Karim of Rapid City and Karen Glazier of Custer were the top finishers
in the 9th Annual MADD Dash 5K Run which was held on Sunday in Rapid
City. Karim was the first male finisher with a time of 17:11. Glazier
was the first female finisher with a time of 20:31. Over 100 runners
and walkers participated in the event which is a fundraiser for the Pennington
County Mothers Against Drunk Driving for public awareness programs. Complete

Mystic to Rochford
Rapid City’s Ron Hopp and Karen Glazier of Custer were the top
runners in the second running of the Mickelson Trail Run. Hopp completed
the 7.8 mile course in 48:32, Glazier in 58:59. The course followed the
George S. Mickelson Trail from the Mystic Trailhead to the Rochford Trailhead.

Schwickerath and Glazier Top Runners in the D.A.M. 5K Run
Patrick Schwickerath of Rapid City was the top finisher of the D.A.M.
5K Run held last Saturday in Sturgis. His time was 16:55. Karen Glazier
of Custer was the top female finisher with a time of 20:33. The run was
held as a fundraiser for the Doug Miller Foundation, which is using the
funds to support the Sturgis Area Youth Football League.
